8 Must-Have Shih Tzu Puppy Products

Shih Tzu Puppy

Your puppy is the source of much joy, love, and affection. That is why getting the right products for them is so important. In addition to the right food, bedding, and care, these products will not only help train your puppy, they will also help keep them happy and attentive throughout their lives.

What follows are 8 proven products for your puppy that are important, useful, and proven to help your puppy make the proper transition to adulthood.

Bed

A small, comfy bed is the perfect place for your puppy to spend its first night. You will need a crate for your puppy as well, so the bed will need to be small enough to fit inside. Fleece or sheepskin is a good type of dog bed.

As they grow, they will need a larger bed, so you can choose from different size pillows, couches, and even a memory-foam mattress if you desire.

Collar and Leash

Of the many basic items that your puppy will need when they come of age, a collar and a leash are two of the most important. When the time is right, you will need to place a collar on your puppy that should be adjustable as they grow.

The leash is when you decide to walk your puppy outdoors away from the house. Try a short leash at first, then get a longer one if you decide to enroll your dog into obedience training.

Identification

In addition to adding your name, phone number, and perhaps email address for anyone who finds your dog, a microchip can be a good investment as well. This is because the microchip cannot be lost and vets can check it easily for identification purposes.

Crate

This is a must as the crate will be the home for the puppy as they grow. It’s helpful to have a crate for them to rest and a larger playpen or play area to run around. The crate is a great way to housetrain your puppy as they will learn not to urinate or defecate in the place that they sleep. Plus, you can purchase a larger crate of good construction that will be their home for the rest of their lives.

Dog Food

Be sure to match the food with the dog. This means their age, breed, and any specific needs. If you are not sure, your veterinarian is a good place to start. They will provide guidance over the type of food and ingredients that are needed.

Food & Water Bowls

These can be cheap but be sure you get a high-quality plastic version that does not house bacteria and is easy to clean. If cost is not an issue, then stainless steel bowls are the best as they are easy to clean and most importantly, difficult for your puppy to carry around.

Grooming

You’ll need a good brush, blow dryer, shampoo, and toothbrush for your dog. You may need other grooming supplies as well, but having these items are a good place to start. Again, check with your veterinarian to see what is needed.

Toys

Puppies love toys and even adult dogs will get enjoyment out of them. Be sure to select a few good chew toys that are size-appropriate for your pooch.
